Return to "This is Stonehenge"

It started innocently enough. A group of Mini Cooper enthusiasts getting together on a Saturday morning in July to take a drive together down to the Columbia Gorge.

At the meet up location we all ooohed and ahhhed over each other's Minis. I particularly fell in love with a Mini that changed colors! In the morning it was a warm, coppery, cognac-y brown...

But by the afternoon, it had turned a mossy green...

We drove highways I'd never been on before...

and arrived mid afternoon at the Stonehenge Memorial at Maryhill on the Columbia Gorge. Of course, we had to celebrate with a picture of our precious babies lined up all purdy-like around Stonehenge (obviously!)

The Maryhill Stonehenge is a memorial to the soldiers who fell during the Great War. Sizewise, it is a full-sized, astronomically correct replica of the original on the Salisbury Plain.

The Columbia River (called the Columbia Gorge here) is the demarkation point between Washington and Oregon; that's Oregon on the far bank.

It's an area of Washington State that is high desert, and a perfect location for wind turbines. I love wind turbines. I know whatshisname Trump hates 'em, but I love 'em.

Here's the Stonehenge Memorial from an adjacent bluff at 6 a.m. the next morning. Glorious!

My Apologies

I have been away from this blog far too long. But at least I have been busy elsewhere; so many little projects begun and in varied stages of completion, including a cape

made of the most silky soft houndstooth with a silk charmeuse lining. I think I found the houndstooth suiting at Pacific Fabric last summer; the silk charmeuse was (let's all chime in together) A Find at Goodwill.

Last month or so I joined a Mini Cooper club and went on my first rally.

I was to go on another Mini event this weekend, which was held at Maryhill's Stonehenge on the Columbia Gorge, but last week I broke a toe and it is really painful trying to shift gears for more than a short trip at a time. So I missed out on the photo op here:

Sigh. I did finish my next pair of socks, a lovely soft bamboo wool blend in purple stripes They're a bit big, but my poor abused toe is quite happy and warm. I also dyed a couple of skeins of wool with Kool Aid and am waiting to knit it up and then felt it into some elf slippers...

My New Toy Car

Yesterday I finally got my new Mini Cooper - I ordered it a couple of months ago and it came in last week. I am soooo excited!

It has a very compact engine

Here is the salesman Jay explaining things like variable ambient lighting, and how to work the air co
I've waited 14 years for this! I know most people in the States buy cars more frequently than that, but I only buy one when I absolutely cannot stand driving my old beat up jalopies any more! In the case of my old Jeep, I was tired of getting soaked every time it rained. It rains alot in Seattle. Many years ago I had an Austin America, which was even tinier than this Mini. I loved that car and named it Larry O, short for Lawrence Olivier. Hmmm, what should I name the new baby?
